Here's some things I don't think you know about Singapore.....if you're a foreigner that is.

Singapore was originally named Temasek, till a prince from Palembang named Sang Nila Utama came ashore and spotted a lion-like animal with a white chest. So, he named it after that animal, Singa; lion in English. Hence, Singapura was named by him, Singapore which we now know. It was not until in 1819 that Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, founded modern Singapore.

Singapore gained its independence from Malaysia on 9 August 1965 and its first ever president was the late Yg-diPertuan Yusof Ishak. Its government was led by, then prime minister, now senior minister, Lee Kuan Yew.

Singapore's air and sea port is amongst the top 3 best in the world. Come and see if you don't believe it.

Singapore, so far, is the only country that bans chewing gums. It is illegal to sell and purchase chewing gums here. And as far as legislation is concerned, its crime rate is one of the lowest in the world, about 1% of its population.

Each year from July to August, tourists flocked here just to shop. The Great Singapore Sale has become an annual affair here and you can expect discounts of up to 90%. So, if you wanna do some serious shopping, come at those months. And once you're here, be sure to check your credit limit. HAHA!!
